DO'S & DON'TS- very important you must read!
(We all need to input information the same or it won't work!)
*Check to see that the ancestor is not already on otherwise they will be on
twice and the link won't work.
*Ensure you click the "alive" or "dead" button when putting in detail.
Very important that!
NO living people are to be entered in order to respect privacy.
DO NOT enter anyone born after 1920 unless you know that they are deceased.
Add the date of death or estimate one, any without a date of death and born after
1920, even if marked as deceased, will be deleted.
Any born before 1920 that may well be deceased, you do not need to add a date of
death for these unless of course you know it, but do remember to click on the
deceased button!
*Do Put a dob in even if you only estimate it!
Makes it easier to check if name is on the site already - especially if a few with
the same name.
*Do check a name out that you are entering for similar dates of
birth.
eg a John Smith b 1852 may be one already entered but down as maybe Est or Bef b1850.
*Do put your name on in the notes section so we know to whom the ancestor
links!ie "Connects to ..."
And do add your name on an existing ancestor that you connect to.
Also if you add info and it is not your family no worries the more the merrier just
add a note will you eg "added by" then your name.
*DO NOT AMEND ANY POST without consulting the person who has entered the
initial info, alternatively contact Jan for advice.
However you may add to the post any checked
information cos that is the whole idea to get more info and see how we all link!
*When a surname has variations eg Tibbetts/Tibbitts and Tromans/Troman just
use just the main variant even if yours is down as say Troman but the
majority are Tromans as this will make linking and searching easier. You can put a
note in notes section as to actual spelling of name
*Do NOT move or join anything up ie one ancestor to another part of the tree
UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING contact Jan for help here!!
Do not connect up any part of the tree unless you are very very sure that the
individuals have the same parents as on the marriage docs.....so dble check please!
*Don't put the surnames or forenames in all capitals. Please use Initial Caps
then lower case. Easier on the eye when scrolling.
*If you don't know the surname put Unknown and not ?.
*Do not click on the private box as this hides the notes detail of any future
other users and their names/connections!
Should this box be ticked we will untick it.
*Do not just add a photo of your ancestors or anything without checking with me
first for the first upload time.
I need to set you up an album. Then the first one let me show you how to do it as it
can be a bit tricky, once you know you can add your own within the guidelines as
detailed below.
*Do please credit your sources wherever you can and DO NOT just lift information
in a tell tale format into the notes! You can add your Sources to the Sources
info too. When posting census info do please go into the actual image and transcribe
exactly as on that image, do not use the transcribed information from a website which
may have been indexed incorrectly..although it is useful to state in the notes
indexed as Sharpe on such and such site but should say Stringer....that way it shows
another person the correct information but flags why they might not have been able to
find it!
___________________________________________
It is all a bit of an experiment and very much a work in progress!
So please do bear with us.
Don't blame us if it all vanishes one day due to outside influences, so
please DO NOT regard this as your main storage place for family details.
Black Country Connections is a team effort with a lot of people adding
information - and that really is the whole point!
So please DO VERIFY THE INFORMATION GIVEN ON HERE YOURSELF
As we rely solely on our contributors personal research.
Having said that our members take their research very seriously and we believe that
information given is at least a starting point for further clarification
If anyone disagrees with some of the information on the site then they are welcome to
contact the administrators and we will look into the matter.
We now have many entries on the site and we would like them all to be correct if
possible.
The information to be found on here is usually in the public domain i.e. indexes,
census bmd certifs etc. Please bear in mind that once information has been
added to the website it forms part of our data and therefore only withdrawn at the
discretion of its site owner Jan.
We also have a private tree on Ancestry.
Ancestry do not show living info under 85 yrs. As it is a private tree people
will need to contact us for more info about our Project.
So if you see a tree called Black Country Connections that is us too!
We hope to inform as many people as possible about our Tribal pages thus helping
other researchers with their family history research. Thus the tree info may be on
other sites but always a private tree and always directed back to this main viewing
one.
Please note the access code above, is only given out by agreement with site owner.
As is being able to add any information to this site!
If you were able to add info before and unable to do so now please contact us and we
will look into it. If you have not been active on the site for a while I will adjust
your status to that of Guest. You will still be able to view the info and when you
wish to be active and add your ancestors again just let me know and I will reinstate
you. This just saves me having a huge list of inactive admins to monitor.
The owner reserves the right to amend, change or update info here as and when is
necessary.
Please note that invitation/permission to add your information is at the discretion
of the site owner which can be refused/withdrawn at any time.
By joining in/and using our site you agree and abide by all of the above.
All census information (England/Wales) is Crown Copyright, from
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Whilst here.........
do have a look at the Stories and Photos section.
We would love Stories about you or your ancestors- happy, sad, romantic,
funny, ordinary or extraordinary.
If you have any Photos of your ancestors you can have your own album
with your username on.
Please ensure that any photos are 100% your own and not from a book or
website due to any copyright restrictions.NB- Any photo that looks suspicious
I am afraid will be deleted.
NB- as a matter of courtesy please do not just copy any of our photos send a
message via this site with a request and any access/copy required.)
This site was first started on the 19 July 2007 under a
different name of Rowley Regis Connections but with the same tribal pages
format as above of Photos, Names and a Stories section for its members.
